A Draught Excluder – DX – is a seal that has a self grip ‘U’ section with a bubble or flap attached to the top or side. Normally used on later vehicle boots, bonnets and doors but can be used anywhere to seal between two surfaces where there is an edge suitable to attach the self grip ‘U’ section.
The ‘U’ section has segmented sprung steel strips or wire encased in the rubber and grips onto an edge which is pushed on by the palm of the hand or a soft mallet. It is flexible, will bend around corners and can be mitred on square corners. When fitting it is advisable to remove the last piece of steel from the cut end as this will work its way out. The hollow bubble or flap is mostly made from sponge rubber and when compressed by a third, forms a good seal.
